You don't need me to tell you that school is in full swing! You're
feeling the whirlwind of assignments, grading, copies, testing, etc.
and the stress of getting your own kids back on track. We all know
the rush of excitement for a new year, a new way of doing things, a
new principal, and getting ahead. While the excitement may be a thing
of the past, the rush - I'm sure - won't subside until late May.
So, we're about 5 or 6 weeks in - you know your schedule and your kids
activity schedules. You know what you have to do to be sure you're
fitting in fitness. It is a critical part of your health - to keep
moving and de-stress. And I can hear you saying "I chase after kids
all day," or "I run to get copies, or to get this or that" - I know
you do. Not for one minute do I think that you are sitting at a desk
all day, in a nice cushy chair as you give orders to kids who politely
listen and do as they're told. Believe me - I get it. But don't
convince yourself that this is the workout you need. It may be a
workout, I'll grant you that - but it is NOT the activity that your
body and mind needs to deal with the stresses of life.
So, what are you going to do about it? Over the years, I have noticed
that it takes teachers a full semester to get back into their routine
at the gym. I'm always happy to see them return, but they come back
in desperation - don't let this happen to you. If you have to get up
early to fit in a workout, then do it. I KNOW IT'S HARD - but you
NEED it. If you have to leave at 4:30 or 5:30 (on Mondays) to make
kickboxing, then do it! You don't have to do it everyday, but you can
set that as a daily goal and the reality is you'll get in what you
need - at least 3 days of workouts. I know you can do it - get
started! I'll be waiting for you!
Have a great week...:))
