Was it a FIT or FAT Fiesta? & GLOVES!!!

Written by Margie

Was Fiesta 2012 a fit Fiesta or a fat Fiesta?  Did you make good food choices or did you eat more than your fair share of food on a stick?  And if you passed up the funnel cakes and fried foods, did you instead reach for the liquid treats?  So . . . after giving it some thought (and maybe a quick look in your dishwasher for all the plastic NIOSA cups), was it a fit Fiesta or a fat Fiesta?

Obviously, if you made good choices - or at least saved your calories for a couple of not-so-good choices - then you are on track and in good shape.  If you didn't do so well with your food and drink selections, then you know it is time to dig down.  If you are not already, you need to count your calories and ask yourself . . . do you really want it?  Do you need it?  Is it worth it?  Because you can't have it all.

Swimsuit season is right around the corner!  I don't know about you, but that's enough to keep me on track.  Get over any poor choices you made last week (including skipped trips to the gym) and make sure you are asking yourself those three questions: Do you really want it?  Do you need it?  Is it worth it?  I'm pretty sure it's not.

Kickboxing Gloves
Next Wednesday (May 9th), I am putting in an order for kickboxing gloves.  It will be the last order for the year so if you want gloves or think you may need to replace a pair before the end of the year, get your order in by next Wednesday!  The cost is $35 - please put your CASH in an envelope with your name and size on the envelope and I will add you to the order.

Have a great week...:))

Coming Soon!

Written by Margie

This week, my newsletter is coming out.  You may remember me mentioning starting a quarterly newsletter after the new year and it is time! Not much has changed - just the frequency.  It is amazing how fast a month goes by and before I know it, I am trying to narrow down everything that I want to say to you.  So, over three months time a lot has happened that I want to share with you and I will include as much as I can - however, I am always open to your ideas as well.  What topics would you like to see?

On another note - my Pure Strength Spring session started up last week and I am so excited about this session!  We have a lot of new faces and it is always wonderful to see my regulars.  This session, we are working on Phase II of our diet plan.  We had amazing successes with those individuals who took on the 10-week challenge last round and if they haven't met their 'ultimate' goal yet - they are well on their way. Oh - and in the newsletter,  I will be sharing the results of the 10 week challenge for those who participated.  You will be amazed by their transformations.

And if you want to get in on the craze of Pure Strength, the afternoon class still has a few openings.  The class is Monday, Wednesday, or Friday at 3:45 pm --- the 5am class is full.

Have a great week…:))

RockNRoll Dallas, Baby!

Written by Margie

Whew!  What a busy, crazy, and thrilling weekend!!!  I had THE BEST adventure with my running group this weekend.  Last week, I mentioned I was running in the Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay with a group of women I have been coaching.  A few months ago, I gave them each a running calendar . . . actually, it was a bit more than just running - it was really a workout plan that included a running plan.  If you are a runner, then you know how important it is to cross train.  Anyhow, along with the running calendar, we have all been on our 10 week challenge - so proper nutrition played a CRITICAL role in everyone's success.

Oh . . . how did they do at the race?  Each person did an AMAZING job!!!  Everyone either met or exceeded their goal and every single one of them crossed that finish line with pride!  I am one proud Mama today!  Below, I have listed their times, but it is important to note that their determination through these last couple of months - with the training and the diet - is the true success here.  I am SO PROUD!!!

Half Marathoners (13.1 miles)
Jen - 1:59:48
Liz - 2:31:00
Heather - 2:13:01
Tayler - 1:51:17

Half Marathon Relayers (7.1 mile leg, 6 mile leg)
Dana - 1:06:28
Debra - 1:25:46

Missy - 1:06:26
Angela - 1:07:51

Ann - 1:05:27
Relay partner could not participate due to broken foot

Margie - 56:47
Pat - 48:48

Congratulations to the runners - you all have made me so proud and I am inspired by your efforts every day!

REMINDER!

The next Pure Strength session starts next week - the class is filling up, so reserve your spot by FRIDAY, March 30!  The session is 12 weeks long - if you want to break the payments into two 6 week sessions you can do so by writing a post dated check for the last 6 weeks.  Choose 2 or 3 days a week - pick any day and time that works for you.  Classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5am or 3:45pm.

2 classes/week - $400 for the 12 week session
3 classes/week - $600 for the 12 week session

Have a great week…:))

We WON! And a few other random thoughts...

Written by Margie

I have so many random thoughts popping off in my head, so I will try to organize them and neatly jot them down for you here…:))

First thing is first . . . WE WON!!!!!!  Thank you to everyone who signed up for Tanji's newsletter - we won the Viking mixer!  My niece has a business called Nourished Foods (like her on Facebook if you haven't already) - she makes and sells healthy, organic foods and snacks.  The mixer is for her - she has worked so hard and does so much good for people AND her food is amazing.  SURPRISE Cassidy!  Also, I hope you like Tanji's newsletter - I am enjoying it and have taken a lot of good ideas from it!

Second . . . My Tay is here!!!!!  Tayler is home for Spring Break this week, so I am taking a little break to spend time with her.  I know the week will fly by and before I know it, I will be sending her off to school again…:((

Third random thought . . . A quick shout out to my group of runners for the Dallas Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay this weekend!  You have all trained hard for this race and have done an awesome job (and not killed your coach in the process)…;))  You all make me very proud and I can not wait to share this experience with you!

And last . . . Next week is BONUS week for my Pure Strength class!  This is a great class for EVERYONE!  You get personal training in a group setting with a very diverse group of men and women . . . at ALL stages of fitness - from beginners to more experienced individuals.  The class includes weight workouts (remember - we're not making body builders - lifting weights helps burn the fat) and may include a bit of cardio here and there.  We have been on this wonderful 10 week challenge together - and the support of the group has made all the difference.  Next week, I will post our results from the challenge as we begin another phase with the next session of Pure Strength.  Come hang out with us next week and try it out for free - you can come to one class or all of them - it's up to you!!!  Classes are offered next week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5am or 3:45pm.  Call or email me with questions or to let me know if you will be joining us so I can plan accordingly…:))

Have a great week!

Paying it forward...

Written by Margie

If you know me, then you know how much I love to give.  Whether it is advice on your health and nutrition, your workout routine, or something on a larger scale - like what my PS group did for a family this past Christmas - I love to give.  And I love to hear stories from you where you gave to someone else (even unknowingly) and made someone's life better.  This week's blog is about a friend of mine, and PS participant, who passed along some info to a desperate person at just the right time and it became a life changing moment... for both of them.

Several months ago, my friend Ro came in contact with a gentleman (we'll call him Bob) who was in a bad place with his health - he weighed over 300 pounds, he was depressed, and sadly - he didn't know what to do or where to start to change his life.  Ro shared with him all of the things we have discussed here: Make the decision to change your life right now.  She told him to start walking on the treadmill, then as he increases his fitness - walk/jog, then walk/jog/run - you know the rest.  One of the most important things for him was to change his eating habits - so she talked to him about making healthy eating choices, eating 4-5 small meals a day and what those meals should consist of to be sure he was getting optimal energy.  That was several months ago.

A week or so ago, Ro saw Bob and he has lost about 40 pounds - give or take a couple of pounds.  He was so excited to share with her what a life changing moment that was for him - that time she spent with him gave him the motivation and encouragement to get started on a healthier lifestyle.  And Ro, my sweet friend Ro, couldn't believe the impact she made with just that little time she spent with him, "all I told him is everything you have shared with us, ma'am" she said (she's so respectful)…:))  Sometimes, peeps, that is all it takes to help someone.  You never know what kind of impact you can have on someone by just smiling at them, or helping them with something, or simply passing along some useful information.  Pay it forward, I do my best to practice that philosophy everyday.

If you know someone who is struggling, needs some guidance, or just a little motivation - do your best to encourage them.  We never know what our words are going to do for someone.  That is part of paying it forward, and I encourage you to take just a little time out of your day to make sure others are feeling motivated and encouraged about life . . . and a healthy one at that!

In 'paying it forward' fashion, I am opening up a BONUS week of Pure Strength!  We have been talking about it - with our running group, our 10 week diet challenge, and how helpful the encouragement from others has been - it is time for you to try it out.  Attend the free bonus week at the end of March and find out how it can change your life!  All I ask is that you FB message me or email me to let me know you are joining us so I can plan accordingly.  Here is the info on when class is offered:

BONUS WEEK - week of March 26
Monday/Wednesday/Friday at 5am or 3:45pm.

You're a ga-zelle!

Written by Margie

A pretty cool thing happened this weekend.  On Saturday morning, I had the awesome opportunity to run a 10K with some friends I have been training/coaching. These awesome ladies are part of my Pure Strength group and with that class comes the opportunity to get a running card - for training purposes if there is a race in your future, or for additional cardio - which we all need.

A small group from Winter PS is running in a Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay at the end of the month.  This 10K was a little 'test' to see how their training has come along so far . . . to gauge where they are at and set goals accordingly for the big race coming up.  And I have to say they BLEW THIS 10K OUT OF THE WATER!!!!!!!  Everyone did AMAZING!!!!!  Each person met or exceeded their goal for this distance!  Pardon me for a second while I brag:
Lety - 6:52 pace
Jen - 8:39 pace
Pat (my man) - 8:10 pace
Liz - set a goal of 11:20 and came in at 11:03!
Missy - 9:33
Dana - 9:18 pace
Heather - 9:33 pace

Lety, who was a gazelle in her former life, took 3rd place for female runners.  Jen has been running for a few years now and increased her pace by 1 full minute!  If you are a runner, you know how much work that takes!  Liz started with the Half Marathon Relay in San Antonio in March and has increased her time by a minute since then.  Missy JUST STARTED running 8 weeks ago and had a 9:33 pace, as did Heather.  Dana did a fabulous job at a 9:18 pace!  And how about my man, PAT!  He has always run at a 9+ pace and he did awesome as well.  All of these ladies (and Pat) have been using their running card to train with and we've made adjustments when needed.  In addition to the training, we have all been eating clean for the past 7 weeks . . . and I KNOW this had a lot to do with our success.  We have all slimmed down (myself included), feel great, and are all training hard.  Way to go all - M2 is so very proud!

Project Fitness Update

Written by Margie

First, I want to say thank you to all who have helped me out regarding last week's "Call To Action" blog!  And just a reminder - they are drawing the winner on May 1st, so if you haven't already done so, please sign up for Tanji Patton's newsletter using my email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) as the "Referrer's Email".  Thank you!  Sign up here ---> http://goodtaste.tv/newsletter/

The only other thing on my mind right now is how well my Pure Strength group is doing on their challenge.  They are eating clean and turning into lean, fit machines!  We have been on this challenge together for 6 weeks, with 4 weeks to go.  We have all had our tests, temptations and frustrations, but we have survived them . . . however, not without the help of each other.

We have men and women at EVERY fitness level - those who needed to lose 50-60 pounds, some who needed to lose those last 10 pounds, and some who are simply increasing their fitness level with the help of a clean diet.  Together, we have lost 138.2 pounds, over 20 inches off of our chest & hips (each), and over 12 inches from our thighs.  If you ask me, that is an awesome accomplishment!!!  We will have before/after pictures of a few in the next newsletter (I switched to quarterly newsletters, so it will be out by mid to late March).

I am so very proud of this group of women and men.  We have all worked very hard toward this goal . . . and I can't wait to see the final results! There is one thing that has really made the difference with this group - it is the support of one another to get through those tough times, to encourage each other to make good food choices, and to hold a buddy accountable if they don't make it to the gym.  If you have tried weight loss challenges and have not been successful, then you probably need a little help to get you through . . . so, find your buddy, and get on board!  And if you find you need more than just a buddy's help, join us!  The next session starts up in April and we would love to have you…:))

Have a great week…:))
