Life is short . . .

Last week, I lost a dear friend to cancer.  The disease runs in his family, so you could say he was genetically prone to it.  However, knowing that - he ate super healthy, worked out everyday, and always had a smile on his face.  You never know when it's your time to go, so make the most of what you have.

When something like this happens, in the background, you can always hear those who say that if their life is up then why not totally indulge?  Forget the gym, forget the healthy food choices and forget the positive outlook I say . . . because if you eat crap, you're going to feel like crap.  Why would someone do that to themselves and their family?  You never know if or when you will be fighting for your life - whether it's from a horrible disease or a significant surgery or injury.  Why not face it with the healthiest body you can and give yourself a head start on your recovery?  And if you're facing death, as with my friend, fighting back with a healthy and fit body may give you extra time with family.

If you have been blowing off the gym and telling yourself you will start back in January - DON'T!!!  Get yourself going in the right direction now.  If you already have 5, 10, 15 pounds to lose, get SERIOUS NOW and don't wait until your weight loss goal doubles - as it easily can if you just 'let go' over the holidays. YOU are the only reason you need to take care of yourself and get in the best shape - you never know what kind of fight your body & MIND will face tomorrow.  A fit and healthy body fuels a fit and healthy MIND - emotional distress can exhaust you the same way a physical fight will.

Take some time today and think about the ones you love, remember to tell them and show them how much you care.  Then, get to the gym and get your body moving in a positive direction.  The healthier you are, the more endurance you will have to fight hard and increase your chance of survival.  If you are looking for help to jump start your fitness plan or ways to get maximum nutrients in your body, email me.  This is my passion . . . I want you to be as healthy as you possibly can.

A side note: Kickboxing gloves are in I will be passing them out this week.

Have a great week, I'm grateful each of you are in my life...:))

Friendly Motivation

Last week, I was invited to a get together with friends.  The focus was to talk about food choices and to help one another with. . . well, a variety of things.  We discussed how to eat for weight loss, the foundation of a meal (a protein, a carb and a fat), healthy smacks when you're on the go, healthier alternatives to specific foods, and different recipes we like.  We also talked about the challenges we face with losing weight, getting bored with the same 'ol healthy stuff, and making sure we are eating in a way that fuels our specific activity.

The reason I wanted to share this with you is to tell you how much this get together motivated me.

Shopping for the gathering encouraged me and others to make healthy choices.  The discussions were all so positive - everyone was there to help and guide each other to healthier food choices.  On my way home from the evening, I thought about how helpful everyone was.  You've heard me talk about the 'summer six' - well, I've lost 2 pounds so far and that evening helped me stay focused on my goal.

So, my point for all this is to encourage you to gather with a few friends - whenever you can - to help keep you focused on your goals.  Whether it's a quick discussion during a work lunch, a phone call to your workout buddy, or a quick evening gathering - invest in yourself and your friends and stay motivated!

Have a great week...:))

What's Your Plan, Man?

Even if you try to look the other way, you can't help it . . . Halloween candy is already EVERYWHERE!!!  And unless you are totally shut off from the world, you can't help but notice the Christmas decorations slowly making their way out.  Yes . . . that's right - we are in CANDY & SWEETS SEASON!

Coworkers have taken out their candy dishes and decorated their cubicles and classrooms with Halloween colored treats.  And if you don't want to carry around any extra holiday 'decorations' on your hips, you better jot down your fitness plan!  If you're like me, you have some summer pounds you're still trying to work off . . . you've heard me mention my "summer 6".  So as you're thinking about that 110 calorie treat, also be mindful of what you are working towards RIGHT NOW and how much harder and longer you will have to workout to drop the 110+ calories.

It really doesn't take that much time.  Really think about the next few months and all the treats they have to offer.  I'm realistic - I'm not going to ask you to not partake in some of the holiday cheer, but just don't overdo it.  Have a plan, know what you're working toward and if you know you're going to have that homemade pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving (and maybe a holiday drink  or two), stay on track now and avoid the snack size temptations!

So, what's your plan?  Think about it.  Write it down and look at it every now and then to keep you motivated.

Have a great week...:))
